Q: Are you purchasing a Parallax Power Supply product online?
A: Before you buy, ask the seller about their warranty procedures. Does the retailer provide customer service or service department phone number? Due to the fact that we cannot guarantee you are being sold a new product, any warranty issues should be handled by the retailer who sold the product. For further information regarding our warranty procedures, call 1 (800) 443-4859, Option 3; or email us at warranty@parallaxpower.com.

Q: Why do Recreational Vehicles need Converter/Chargers?
A: Remote camping in a recreational vehicle in areas without shore power or in some cases a generator power source requires an electric power source (i.e. your 12v battery system). The power converter recharges the battery and supplies 12-volt power for the lights and appliances when 120–volt AC power is available. Most RV Manufacturers now specify Electronic Power Converter/Chargers.

Q: What is the maximum rate my Parallax Converter will recharge my batteries?
A: Provided there are no other 12-volt systems operating and if the battery is discharged enough, the maximum rate the converter will recharge the batteries is the maximum amount of Amps created by the converter. The last two digits of the part number indicate its maximum current capability in Amps.

Q: Why doesn’t the fan on my converter run all of the time?
A: The fan installed on your 4400/8300 series converter is thermostatically controlled and will only run when needed. The 5300 series models 5355 is also thermostatically triggered and will cycle on and off as needed. The 5400 series models 5465, 5475, and 5490 cooling fans operate constantly. Simplified 45 and 55 DC Ampere model fans are thermostatically triggered. 65, 75, and 90 DC Ampere model fans operate constantly.

Q: Does my converter have any protection from electrical issues?
A: Parallax converters feature overcurrent protection, short circuit protection, reverse polarity protection, and thermal shutdown protection. In a short circuit, over current, or thermal issue, the converter will shut down nearly instantaneously to protect itself. The converter will reset itself once the issue is resolved. Additionally, protection is also included to help protect your property and safety in the event of catastrophic failure, which can be caused by liquid intrusion, etc.

Q: What is the term of the converter warranty?
A: Your new Parallax Power Supply converter is protected by a 2-year warranty from the date of original purchase to the original owner. An extended warranty is available which extends your coverage for an additional 12 months.

Q: What are the fuses on the front of the converter designed to do?
A: These fuses protect the converter from damage.

Q: Can I leave my Parallax converter system constantly connected to 120VAC power? Will this damage my batteries?
A: Parallax converter models deliver a nominal “float voltage” output of 13.2 -13.8 volts DC. Leaving the RV connected to 120VAC and the converter output connected to the battery should present no problems as long as this “float voltage” is between 13.2 – 14.1 volts DC and recommended battery maintenance is performed.
